As you may have heard NZEI (the union for primary school staff), is taking part in stike action on Thursday 16th of March.

Staff in School’s, in cyclone affected areas, are able to apply for an exemption. We have done this and Pukehamoamoa School will be open on Thursday 16th of March. The buses will be running.

2023 PUKE BIATHLON / SWIMMING SPORTS

Our school Biathlon is on Thursday! We are all looking forward to a great day, we encourage you to come along and support this event.

We are having a sausage sizzle for lunch. Just a friendly reminder to head to the office and pre-order your sausages and juicies tomorrow morning.
Sausages = $2
Juicies = $2

Info for the day:
School will begin at 8:45 and the Biathlon will begin at 11:00am.  The races will take place in the following order:

8 lengths freestyle  4 laps of the field

Race 2: Y 7/8 Girls   2 lengths breaststroke  2 lengths backstroke

Race 3: Y 5/6 Boys  2 lengths breaststroke   2 lengths backstroke

6 lengths freestyle  3 laps of the field

Race 5: Y1/2 Boys and Girls  2 lengths of any stroke/walk followed by  2 laps of the field

In light of the current situation we have decided to run a biathlon, which will combine our triathlon with our swimming sports.  It is important that the children still participate in the various styles of swimming to help us determine swimming champions. Breastroke and backstroke will be separate races.  Freestyle will start the biathlon race as athletes leave the pool to complete their running discipline.

Don’t forget – Children are to wear their house colours:

Mansfield – Green

Sheppard – Blue

Please no face paint or hair dye.

Our water has been cleared to drink so children can use the use the drinking fountains and fill their drink bottles at school.

The pool will also be open.

Kia ora whanau

Due to the forecast for heavy rain tonight and over the next few days we have decided to close the school tomorrow (Friday). We will monitor the weather and road conditions over the weekend and we hope to open again on Monday the 27th.

I will keep you updated if there is any change to this.

 Please note school will close at 2.45pm as usual today and the buses will be running.

PUKEHAMOAMOA SCHOOL UPDATE

We are excited to say we are opening the school for all students tomorrow and the buses will be running as normal. The power has been restored!!

We are still on a boil water notice so if children can bring a water bottle that would be great. We do have bottled water available also.

 Pool

The pool will be open tomorrow. So, bring your swimming gear.

 Sports

Touch now starts on Tuesday 28th of Feb at the Sports Park

Netball year 1-4 starts Wednesday 1st of March

Volleyball- we are waiting to have the start date confirmed

Our school swimming sports this week has been cancelled and we are going to run a Biathlon on the 9th of March. This will include a selection of swimming events and running. We will also have a sausage sizzle this day for lunch and juicies for sale.

The cyclone has caused wide spread destruction in our area. I hope those of you who have had to evacuate have managed to do so.
Please reach out, if as a school, we can do anything to help and assist you.
Currently there is little/no access to the school and because of this our school will remain closed for the next two days. We will continue to reassess the access and safety over the next two days and I will keep you informed of any changes.

We will review the situation as the weather moves through and will advise if we need to close for any additional days beyond tomorrow.
